Welcome to Miscarriage
Of Justice .Org
Contrary to popular belief, wrongful
convictions are not occasional, one off occurrences that come
about because of terrible mistakes, or the odd corrupt police
officer. People are locked up day in and day out for crimes
they did not commit, or crimes that never happened. Witnesses
lie in court, defence teams fail to adequately defend their
clients, judges “interpret” the law selectively to allow
dubious evidence to be presented – the list of causes is very
long indeed.
If you find that hard to believe, it’s not
surprising – the system operates in such a way that the
majority of people have no idea how often innocent people
are convicted, and actively encourages the public in general
to believe that only the truly guilty are
convicted.
For many people, the first inkling they
have that something is wrong is when they, or someone they
love, are found guilty of a crime they didn’t commit. The
fight these people face to have wrongful convictions
overturned is enormous, and becoming more difficult every
week with new legislation being introduced, and appeal
judges returning ever more bizarre interpretations of the
law.
This website has been set up to get more
information about the abuses of our Criminal Justice System
into the public domain.
Those who have been wrongfully convicted,
and their families and friends, are completely overwhelmed
by the injustice inflicted upon them, by their complete lack
of knowledge and understanding of what has happened to them,
and what to do about it. After all, if you have never had
any dealings with the Criminal Justice System before, the
chances are your “knowledge and understanding” of that
system will be based on what you have picked up from the
media, or from TV programmes like The Bill or
CSI. Realising that what you thought the system
did, and what it actually does, are completely different, is
often one of the most profound and shocking discoveries made
by people involved in a case of wrongful conviction, and by
then, it is most often too late.
There are several excellent websites
campaigning against the many factors of wrongful conviction.
The links provided on this site are not exhaustive, and we
will happily include links to any organisations not
currently listed.
Similarly, the cases listed here are only
a few of many – again, we will publicise new cases of those
who contact us. It is our aim to provide a comprehensive
base from which we can get as much information into the
public domain as possible.
Finally, we welcome any articles, links
and comments on the subject of wrongful conviction, and its
associated factors. The Miscarriages of
Justice Website aims to provide support and information
to anyone involved in any way with wrongful convictions.
Please feel free to contact us.
